Kala'e's song, "Sands of Old Lahaina," was awarded three Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards for Music Video, Single, and Song of the Year. Hawaii News Now's Billy V featured a story on Kalaʻe regarding the awards he received that night.

Two days after the devastating Lahaina fires, Kala'e wrote this song to show his compassion for all of his family and friends who were affected. His intention was that this song will shine light and provide hope that "She will rise again."

Hawaii Symphony Orchestra
On June 17th, 2017, Kala'e married his wife, Layla, daughter of renowned Hawaiian musician, Rupert Tripp Jr. (Nalu/Kohala). Layla, a musician herself, can often be found making special guest appearances at Kala'e's gigs. For their wedding, they recorded a cover of "Honestly" by Ekolu and filmed a music video as their same day edit.
Kala'e had the honor to perform a concert at the Hawaii Theatre while being accompanied by the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. Here he is performing his original song, "Be Like You."
2022 Na Hōkū Hanohano Awards
Kala'e performed at the 2022 Na Hōkū Hanohano Award Show along side his brother and Aunty, Lehua Kalima. He garnered nominations for Song of the Year and Single of the Year ("Be Like You").
